I will be running in my undies this February so that kids like Jack Burke can grow up happy and healthy.
When Jack was 2 years old he was diagnosed with NF (neurofibromatosis). His parents, Jake and Beth, were shocked by the diagnosis; they had never heard of NF and were devastated to find out the difficulties Jack would likely face in the future.
Along with other tumors, he has a plexiform neurofibroma (a complex tumor) just behind this left eye. In September 2013, when Jack was only 8 years old, a new tumor was discovered on his brain stem that required immediate intervention. The course of action meant Jack would have to endure 15 months of chemotherapy.
As of last month (October 2014) Jack is no longer receiving chemotherapy treatments. He endured 48 weeks of chemotherapy and his family is glad it is over. On the very last week he came down with awful, debilitating mouth sores and perhaps the last 2 weeks were the worst of the entire process. He then went through an MRI to see what effect chemotherapy had on shrinking his brainstem glioma.
The MRI revealed that, in short, his tumor had minimally SHRUNK. Since the Burke family was hoping for stable or no growth, this was terrific news!
Jack has such a great personality and attitude. He is an inspiring role model to his little brother and baby sister....as well as to his parents and everyone he meets. He takes all of this in stride and endures unimaginable levels of pain.
NO CHILD SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS and this is why I am running in my undies in the freezing cold!! I will do whatever it takes, no matter how ridiculous, to help find a cure for NF!
Your donation, whether it be $5 or $500, will provide critical funding for the Children's Tumor Foundation, and allow for clinical trials, treatments and ultimately the cure we desperately need. My personal goal is to raise $500 for my team, so please help however you can!
Together, we can be the difference in the lives of children like Jack and help #endNF.
I sincerely thank you, Jack thanks you, and the millions of families who will benefit from this effort thank you.
